Bossingham lost the toss so Cowlo put them into bat. Our opening bowlers were Rose and Tom with Thorpe opening for Bossingham finding the boundary regularly and they were scoring at 6 an over. Rose made the breakthrough in the 7th over bowling their no 2 for 4 – 36 for 1.

The score continued to rattle along and then G was brought onto bowl. His second over was a double wicket maiden accounting for Thorpe who was stumped by Moxo for 53 and his replacement who was C&B caught for a 4 ball duck – 74 for 3 off 14.

Johns was bowling economically from the other end and he took the 4th wicket – a Cowlo catch – 103 for 4 off 23. And then much to the scorer’s surprise Cowlo threw the ball to Shaun – was this a good idea?

Well obviously Cowlo has faith because having gone for just a single, Shaun took 2 wickets with the last 2 balls of his first over – a Joey catch and then a plumb LBW – 121 for 6 off 29.

A Rose maiden followed, could Shaun manage the hat trick? A third wicket did come but off the second ball of the over (3 for 3 off 1.2 overs!! 😮 ), Bossingham now 121 for 7 off 31.

Joey replaced Rose who had completed his 12 overs and bowled the final 2 batsmen, conceding just a wide in the process. Bossingham finished on 137 for 9 off 37.2 overs having at one time been 74 for 1 – a fine bowling performance by the Wood. Figures: Rose 12-4-43-1 Leaver 5-1-25-0 G 6-22-16-2 Johns 8-0-30-1 Shaun 5-0-16-3 Joey 1.2-0-1-2.

The Wood innings started in slow/steady mode with Shaun and G, the first boundary coming in the 5th over. A double change of bowlers brought the first wicket, G being bowled for 10 – 36 for 1 off 14. Kearnsy in next, not quite as exciting as last week but he still managed 16 off 18 before he too was bowled – 57 for 2 off 19.

Tom in at 4 to play anchor man as Shaun now started to find the boundary, reaching his 50 in the 29th over – the scorer must own up to letting this go unnoticed until the following over was underway, sorry Shaun. This was rectified when he was back on strike scoring another 4 which got a big cheer from the Pavilion! This pair could not quite see us home, Tom being caught for 10 (44 balls faced) with only 3 needed to win – 135 for 3 off 34.

Cowlo came in to hit the winning runs, with Shaun finishing 84 not out from 102 balls, which included 18 4′s. This was a brilliant all round performance from the Wood, let’s hope it is the first of many – well done team.
